LOS ANGELES — Universal’s planned big-screen reboot of Murder, She Wrote is currently scheduled for a December 22, 2027 theatrical release, with no official confirmation of any delay to 2028.
Entertainment industry reports following Universal’s March 2026 announcement have consistently pointed to the same 2027 release window.
The film is part of Universal’s effort to revive the classic mystery franchise originally led by Angela Lansbury as detective novelist Jessica Fletcher.
Jamie Lee Curtis is attached to star in the project and confirmed her involvement last year. She also noted that the film remains in early development and has not yet entered production.
The reboot is set to be directed by Jason Moore, with a screenplay by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the writers behind Dumb Money.
Industry coverage currently describes the project as active development, with no verified reports indicating any shift in the release date.
At this stage, the most accurate description remains that the film is scheduled for a late 2027 release, pending any official studio updates.
