Nathan Fillion, star of The Rookie, has shared his thoughts on how long he envisions staying with the hit police drama, currently filming its eighth season.
Speaking candidly, Fillion admitted he isn’t sure when his journey on the show will end. He humorously suggested that when the time comes, he might either teach acting—“particularly how to act through distraction”—or lead a sunset booze cruise, insisting attendees still call him captain.
The Guardians of the Galaxy actor emphasized his passion lies in the craft of acting rather than fame. “I’m so fortunate to do what I love, which is acting and telling stories. The celebrity side of it is a whole other, bizarre component. I like to think the industry is a bit wacky and zany,” Fillion reflected.
Looking ahead, the former Modern Family actor hinted at a soft timeline, imagining wrapping up The Rookie in about ten years while enjoying a life closer to nature. “I want a place on a tropical beach, where birds are always singing and I can hear the ocean. I don’t know if I’ll live there full time, but I’d like the option to go there whenever I want,” he said.
He added, “In 10 years, I’d like to be finishing up The Rookie, maybe passing it on, and enjoying the spin-offs that are still very popular. In the meantime, when I’m not working, I’d love to be at my beach house.”
Fillion’s remarks give fans a glimpse of a long-term plan balancing acting, relaxation, and life by the sea, while leaving the door open for more adventures in his iconic role.
