ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a suspect allegedly involved in an online fraud scheme targeting MPAs and political figures.
According to the NCCIA spokesperson, the accused used to call public representatives and claim that a United Nations delegation was scheduled to visit Pakistan, falsely telling them that they had been selected as representatives from the Pakistan Peoples Party. The suspect allegedly convinced victims that a cargo consignment accompanying the delegation required tax payments, through which he extracted money.
The complainant in the case was similarly deceived and transferred Rs 468,500 to the suspect’s bank account under the pretext of cargo tax.
The NCCIA Cyber Crime Circle Rawalpindi arrested the main suspect, Muhammad Mazhar, son of Muhammad Hanif, while his accomplice, Muhammad Javed, has also been nominated in the case.
An FIR (No. 201/2025) has been registered, and legal proceedings have been initiated under the PECA Act and the Pakistan Penal Code. Further investigation is being led by SI Mehboob Ilahi.
