Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has been contacted by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) as part of an ongoing inquiry involving the forensic examination of his mobile phone. The investigation is reportedly examining digital information, including messages, contacts and other data retrieved from the device.
According to sources cited by Geo News, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took custody of Rizwan’s mobile phone before handing it over to the relevant authorities for forensic examination. Investigators are looking into allegations concerning possible dressing-room information leaks during Pakistan’s Test series against England.
Rizwan and fellow Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore earlier this month. The two cricketers were reportedly questioned for around two hours about their contacts, meetings and activities during practice sessions and matches in England. Both players were also given additional time to submit their responses to the agency.
Sources have said that the initial examination of the players’ mobile phones did not reveal anything significant. However, further forensic analysis is continuing at the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad. Investigators are also reportedly examining financial dealings and suspected transactions involving the two players, including activity before and after the England series.
Rizwan has separately submitted a written response to the NCCIA seeking clarification about why he was summoned, the alleged disciplinary violation under investigation and why his mobile phone had not yet been returned.
The matter has also reached the international cricket authorities. Rizwan reportedly contacted the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit seeking clarification about the seizure, transfer and forensic examination of his mobile phone and whether the procedure followed the relevant ICC rules. His request was reportedly intended to seek procedural clarification rather than lodge a complaint against any individual or organisation.
The Lahore High Court has dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA notices, while the PCB is expected to consider the agency’s findings before deciding on any further action. No final finding against Rizwan or Imam-ul-Haq has been officially announced, and the allegations remain under investigation.
