Pakistan has introduced a redesigned passport with updated security features and a revised fee structure, as confirmed by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P). The new passport will carry the mother’s name along with the father’s name to improve identification, and visa pages will include images of famous historical landmarks from different provinces of the country. While no major changes have been made to the core security features, the Interior Ministry has approved a complete redesign of the passport to make it more modern and inclusive.
Authorities explained that a passport is a fundamental right of every Pakistani citizen, serving as their official identity document abroad, allowing international travel, and ensuring protection through embassies and consulates.
For first-time applicants, the required documents include proof of paid passport fee through a bank challan or e-payment receipt, a valid original CNIC or NICOP with a photocopy, a No Objection Certificate for government or semi-government employees, and a foreign passport for dual nationals.
The updated fee structure has also been announced: a 36-page passport costs Rs. 4,500 for five years and Rs. 6,700 for ten years under normal processing, while urgent fees are Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 11,200 respectively. For a 72-page passport, the normal fees are Rs. 8,200 for five years and Rs. 12,400 for ten years, with urgent fees of Rs. 13,500 and Rs. 20,200. The 100-page passport is priced at Rs. 9,000 for five years and Rs. 13,500 for ten years under normal processing, while urgent processing costs Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 27,000 respectively.
The government’s next step is to roll out the fully redesigned passports, which will reflect these updated features and ensure better recognition and inclusivity at the international level.
