KARACHI – A shocking incident was reported in Korangi’s Christian Town, where the body of a newborn girl was found in the balcony of a residential house. According to the residents, the infant was still breathing when discovered, suggesting she had been born only moments earlier.
Homeowner Christopher Javed told Express that the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. when his mother, who was leaving for work, saw the baby lying in a shopping bag on the balcony. When the family removed the bag, the baby’s head became visible, and it appeared she was still alive. The neighbors and the local councillor were immediately informed, followed by calls to rescue services and police helpline 15.
The residents suspect that someone from a nearby multi-story building may have attempted to throw the baby into a garbage bin located behind their house, but she instead landed in their balcony.
Upon receiving the report, police from Zaman Town Station reached the site and shifted the infant’s body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) via Edhi Ambulance for legal and medical procedures.
SHO Zaman Town, Nafees-ur-Rehman, confirmed that the newborn was found dead upon the police’s arrival and said initial evidence suggests she may have been thrown from a height. However, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
He added that two suspects have been detained for questioning, while the baby’s postmortem is being conducted at Jinnah Hospital to ascertain the cause of death. The police will file a case and carry out a detailed investigation once the medical report is received.
