LAGOS — Anti-narcotics agents in Nigeria have arrested a high-profile social media influencer following the seizure of a massive cocaine haul destined for the United Kingdom.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) took the suspect into custody this week after uncovering 1.8 tons of high-grade cocaine hidden within a private warehouse on the outskirts of Lagos. The street value of the shipment is estimated at $28 million.

Authorities describe the operation as a sophisticated smuggling ring that used the veneer of luxury lifestyle branding to mask illicit logistics. The influencer, whose online presence focused on high-end real estate and private jet travel, allegedly leveraged their logistical network to facilitate the movement of the drugs through major shipping ports.

“The scale of this operation goes beyond a single individual,” a senior NDLEA investigator said. “We are looking at a transnational network that treated narcotics like any other high-value commodity.”

The drugs were meticulously packaged, labeled as industrial machinery, and cleared for transit to London. Intelligence reports suggest the shipment was part of a larger, long-term pipeline connecting South American suppliers to European markets via West African transit hubs.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s digital creator community, where the suspect cultivated a following of hundreds of thousands by flaunting a life of seemingly inexplicable wealth. Investigators are now auditing the suspect’s financial records to determine how much of that lifestyle was funded by narcotics trafficking.

The NDLEA has ramped up surveillance at the Lagos ports since the start of the year, following a string of smaller seizures. This latest bust is the largest in recent memory, marking a significant escalation in the agency’s crackdown on the “influencer-to-trafficker” pipeline.

While the suspect remains in detention, the agency is already tracing international bank transfers. The UK’s National Crime Agency is coordinating with Nigerian authorities, as the investigation looks set to widen into a cross-border prosecution.

For now, the warehouse remains a crime scene. The $28 million in cocaine is slated for public destruction—a routine, yet symbolic, end to one of the region’s largest smuggling attempts.
