It has been revealed that the number of health professionals in Pakistan is below global standards.
This disclosure came in a written reply submitted by the Federal Minister for Health in the National Assembly, which stated that Pakistan has only 19.4 health professionals for every 10,000 citizens, a number even lower than the minimum standard set by the World Health Organization.
The written reply stated that according to WHO, at least 25 professionals are required for every 10,000 people.
According to the Federal Minister for Health, the number of physicians is 317,449 and dentists 40,369, while the total number of nurses is 113,329 and midwives 18,119.
The reply further stated that the number of registered lady health workers is 24,561.
