Shikarpur: A suspected bandit was killed while five of his accomplices managed to escape during an exchange of fire with Stuart Ganj Police on Jagan Link Road in Shikarpur on Sunday.
According to SSP Shikarpur, Shahzaib Chachar, police responded swiftly to a tip-off regarding an attempted robbery, foiling the crime in time.
Police officials confirmed that the deceased suspect was identified as Nadir Mehr, a resident of Rustam, who was wanted in at least 11 cases, including attempted murder, armed robbery, and multiple police encounters.
Authorities said the armed group had been lying in wait on two motorcycles, reportedly alongside accomplices identified as Gulab Saad Khanani, Wajid Soomro, and others.
As the police team approached, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire, prompting retaliation from law enforcement. In the exchange, Nadir Mehr was fatally shot, while the remaining suspects fled the scene.
A Kalashnikov rifle, a magazine, and ammunition were recovered from the dead suspect. The body has been shifted to a local hospital for postmortem examination.
The SSP added that a search operation has been launched to track down the fleeing suspects, while security in the area has been tightened.
