More than 100 Palestinians were killed over the past 24 hours during the Eid holiday, with at least 21 fatalities reported since dawn today. According to Palestinian health officials, 393 others were injured in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip.
Israeli air raids struck multiple locations, including areas east of Jabalia refugee camp and neighborhoods in eastern Gaza City. Reports confirmed the destruction of several residential buildings. In Khan Younis, a drone strike targeted tents in al-Mawasi—a zone previously designated as a “safe area” by Israeli authorities—killing five people, including two young girls.
Additional strikes were reported in northern Gaza near Jabalia and Beit Lahiya, resulting in multiple civilian injuries. Meanwhile, Israeli raids were also carried out in the occupied West Bank, with arrests made in towns such as Arura, Jalazone, Kafr Malek, Balata, and al-Khader.
Starvation and Healthcare System on the Brink
The situation in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating as Israel’s total blockade enters its third month. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reports that 1.95 million people—around 93% of Gaza’s population—are now suffering from severe food insecurity, with one in five facing starvation.
Gaza’s Health Ministry Director, Dr. Munir al-Bursh, warned that hospitals could become “graveyards” within 48 hours if fuel is not provided to keep power generators running. He stressed the urgent need for the World Health Organization’s aid trucks, currently stationed in Arish, Egypt, to be granted entry via the Rafah crossing.
Humanitarian Toll and International Response
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military campaign has resulted in the deaths of 54,880 Palestinians and injuries to over 126,000 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since a ceasefire broke down in March 2024, an additional 4,603 Palestinians have been killed and 14,186 injured.
The ongoing war has displaced nearly 90% of Gaza’s population and caused extensive destruction of homes and critical infrastructure. The International Criminal Court in November 2023 issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Despite international concern, humanitarian efforts remain largely unsuccessful. A U.S.-backed aid initiative collapsed just hours after launch, and deadly shootings near food distribution points have left over 100 people dead in the past eight days, further complicating aid efforts.
