CAIRO: Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen their partnership to promote peace and stability in the region, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said during his official visit to Cairo on Thursday.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted that closer defence cooperation between both nations will not only improve bilateral relations but also support wider regional security efforts. His visit focused on enhancing military collaboration and strategic coordination.

During the trip, he met Egyptian Defence Minister General Abdul Maged Saqar and Egypt’s Chief of Armed Forces Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi. Both sides discussed shared security concerns, regional peace, and future defence partnerships.

The Pakistani army chief was formally welcomed at the Egyptian Ministry of Defence with a Guard of Honour. He also paid tribute by laying a floral wreath at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and at the grave of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

Later, Field Marshal Munir met the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed El Tayeb. In their discussion, the Grand Imam spoke about challenges facing the Muslim world, while Munir stressed the importance of unity, rejecting extremist ideologies, and countering distorted interpretations of Islam.

Both leaders agreed that cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect are essential to promoting peace and guiding the Muslim Ummah towards harmony and progress.
