Pakistan and Tajikistan have reaffirmed their resolve to elevate strategic cooperation to a new level during a high-profile bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress of bilateral cooperation and agreed to explore new avenues in trade, investment, education, energy, defence, regional connectivity, and cultural exchange.
The two leaders highlighted the significance of the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in July 2024 and reviewed key regional and international developments. They reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace, with special emphasis on the CASA-1000 energy project and cooperation against terrorism, organized crime, and drug trafficking.
PM Shehbaz also briefed the Tajik President on India’s recent actions in South Asia, calling them violations of international law. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peace but its firm stance on defending sovereignty.
The Tajik President acknowledged Pakistan as a trusted partner and expressed a desire for deeper cooperation in water diplomacy, tourism, science, and hydro energy.
President Rahmon praised PM Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and hosted a special reception in his honor. The Prime Minister invited the Tajik President to visit Islamabad for further strategic dialogue.
