ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced a special relief package for flood-affected households and businesses, citing the extensive human and material losses caused by the recent heavy rains.
Addressing the nation in a televised message, the premier said the government was fully aware of the hardships being faced by citizens in the flood-hit regions. “Helping the flood victims is our duty,” he emphasized, adding that electricity distribution companies had been directed to implement immediate relief measures.
According to the package, one month’s electricity bills for residential consumers in affected areas will be completely waived. For commercial and industrial consumers, collection of August bills has been postponed. The prime minister assured that the federal government would cover these costs and that refunds would be issued to those who had already paid.
He further said that assessments of damages in agriculture, commerce, and industry were underway. “I will not rest until every displaced family is fully rehabilitated and able to return home,” PM Shehbaz vowed
