During his Apostolic Journey to Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV met bishops, priests, consecrated persons, and pastoral workers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, emphasizing that faith must be lived through service, responsibility, and unity. He connected the visit’s motto, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” with the duty of the Church to sustain hope in difficult times.
The Pope highlighted Lebanon’s rich Christian heritage, recalling Saint Charbel’s silent prayer tradition and the Harissa Shrine’s role as a symbol of national unity. He said true perseverance in times of violence and hardship comes from prayer, calling it “the invisible bridge that unites hearts.”
Reflecting on testimonies shared during the gathering, Pope Leo praised examples of coexistence and solidarity, such as communities where Christians, Muslims, citizens, and refugees live together despite conflict. He stressed that faith acts as an anchor offering stability and direction, urging believers to choose generosity over fear.
The Pope also underscored the Church’s responsibility toward migrants, education, youth opportunities, and prison ministry. He encouraged clergy to strengthen hope, uphold human dignity, and foster unity in daily life. Before concluding, he presented a Golden Rose to the Shrine as a symbol of spreading “the fragrance of Christ” through compassionate action.
