Progress on the mega project of Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, being constructed at a cost of 74 billion rupees, has accelerated, with overall physical progress reaching 54 percent.
According to the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP), the cancer care clinic is 89 percent complete, while 55 percent work on the main hospital building has been completed. The bone marrow transplant block is also under construction with significant progress.
Similarly, 68.7 percent work has been completed on supporting structures including doctors’ residences, mosque, waiting area and cafeteria, while the hospice and palliative care center has been completed 100 percent.
Officials said that to speed up the project, construction activities are being carried out simultaneously in different packages, resulting in a noticeable improvement in overall pace.
During the fiscal year 2025-26, 15 billion rupees were allocated for the project, out of which approximately 10.687 billion rupees have already been spent on ongoing construction work and procurement of medical equipment, while the remaining funds are expected to be utilized by the end of the current fiscal year.
Significant progress has also been made in medical facilities, where the procurement of modern medical equipment has begun, and the delivery and installation of equipment will be completed in phases along with the completion of buildings.
According to technical indicators, the project is progressing according to schedule and in some aspects even ahead of it, with a Schedule Performance Index (SPI) of 1.08 and a Cost Performance Index (CPI) of 1.73, indicating effective pace and financial discipline of the project.
Teams comprising chief engineers, project directors and consultants are continuously working to monitor the project, while quality is being ensured through third party validation.
Officials stated that the project is being completed according to modern international standards and, if the current pace continues, it will be completed within the stipulated time and budget, which will significantly enhance cancer treatment facilities in Pakistan.
