The Punjab government has ordered strict implementation of security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all public and private schools, making 8-foot boundary walls and barbed wire compulsory amid rising security concerns. Authorities emphasized that no school will be allowed to operate without meeting the newly enforced requirements.
Officials confirmed that campuses must maintain round-the-clock security through trained guards, functional CCTV cameras, and webcams. Schools are also required to install metal detectors and a panic button at all entry points, alongside continuous staff monitoring at the main gate. Only one entrance is to remain operational during regular school days.
The government further directed institutions to conduct emergency mock exercises in coordination with Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence. Schools must also establish clearly marked emergency exit routes for students and display essential contact numbers in principals’ offices and staff rooms. Water reservoirs have been mandated as part of broader emergency preparedness.
Additionally, obtaining security clearance from the Special Branch has been declared compulsory for all institutions. Officials stated that these measures aim to enhance campus protection and ensure a safer learning environment across Punjab.
