667 Schools, 395 Health Facilities Damaged in Punjab Floods

At least 667 schools and 395 healthcare facilities have been damaged across 18 districts of Punjab following the recent floods, according to a rapid needs assessment by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The report highlights that over half of the affected schools (54%) were girls’ institutions, raising concerns about disruption in female education. Damage to these schools ranges from minor structural issues to complete destruction, leaving thousands of children without safe learning spaces.

The health sector has also suffered heavily. Out of 742 medical facilities surveyed, 53 percent were found damaged, including 315 partially affected centers and 80 severely or fully destroyed. The loss of these health units has strained medical services in the flood-hit areas, making access to essential care more difficult for vulnerable communities.

Authorities and aid organizations warn that the widespread damage to education and healthcare infrastructure could have long-term impacts on recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Punjab. Immediate resources are being mobilized to restore basic services, but officials stress that the scale of destruction requires sustained national and international support.
