LAHORE — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Punjab Electric Bike Scheme 2026, marking one of the province’s largest student welfare and green mobility initiatives. Announced during a ceremony in Arifwala, the project aims to distribute 100,000 eco-friendly electric bikes and scooties to students across the province to ensure safe, affordable, and accessible commuting to colleges and universities. In a significant move toward women’s empowerment, the provincial government has announced that female students will receive these electric vehicles completely free of cost. Conversely, male students will be able to acquire them through an interest-free, highly affordable monthly installment framework following a nominal down payment.

To be eligible for the scheme, applicants must be at least 18 years old (with an upper age limit of 35 years in some categories) and be regularly enrolled in a Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized degree college or university. Applicants must hold a valid Punjab domicile, possess either a regular motorcycle driving license or a learner’s permit, and must not already own a registered motor vehicle. Furthermore, the policy restricts allotment to one bike per family. Eligible students can apply via the official Punjab Government online portal by uploading their CNIC/B-Form, student ID, institutional bonafide certificate, domicile, and driving permit. Alongside the vehicle, the government is providing additional benefits, including vehicle insurance, solar charging support, and a transparent computerized balloting system to ensure merit. For assistance, students can access the official portal or contact the provincial helpline at 042-111-333-267.
