The Punjab government has launched a three-shift schooling system to ensure uninterrupted education for children affected by recent floods. Over 3,000 schools across the province remain closed due to damage or submersion, worsening the shortage of facilities.
Provincial Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, announced that alongside extended shifts, rented private buildings and temporary tent schools will also be used. He said full restoration of damaged schools may take up to three months.
The decision was shared in a meeting with UNICEF’s Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside, where progress on ongoing education projects was also reviewed.
