LAHORE: At least 13 people lost their lives and 92 others were injured following a powerful storm and heavy rainfall that swept across Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the PDMA spokesperson, the storm caused fatalities in multiple districts. Lahore reported the highest toll with three deaths, followed by Jhelum with another three, and one death each in Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Sialkot, and Mianwali.

The storm’s intensity led to widespread damage, especially in areas with mud houses and aging structures, the spokesperson noted. Additional damage was reported in Lahore, including fallen trees and damaged solar panels.

In response, the PDMA has placed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue teams on high alert, urging them to remain prepared for any emergency situations. The agency’s central control room is operating 24/7 to monitor developments and coordinate response efforts.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia assured that financial compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased and injured in accordance with provincial disaster relief policy.

Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage, while emergency services remain deployed across the affected areas to ensure public safety and deliver relief.
