Lahore,

June 30, 2025:

Severe thunderstorms and gusty winds wreaked havoc across Punjab on Sunday, leaving at least eight people dead and 27 others injured, according to rescue officials.

In Lahore, a tragic incident occurred on Bund Road where a billboard collapsed onto a motorcycle-riding family. The husband died on the spot, while his wife and son sustained injuries. In another incident in the Daroghewala area, the roof of a house caved in, killing two people. Meanwhile, a wall collapse on Katar Bund Road claimed another life.

Elsewhere in Sheikhupura’s Khanpur village, a 10-year-old boy was killed when a house wall came crashing down. A similar tragedy unfolded in Kot Abdul Malik, where one person lost their life due to a wall collapse.

In Nowshera Virkan, lightning struck and killed a man, while in Nandipur village near Gujranwala, a person died after suffering an electric shock during the storm.

Rescue officials reported that at least 27 others were injured in various storm-related incidents, including wall and roof collapses, across Ferozwala, Kasur, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura.

Chaos in Lahore After Storms and Heavy Rain:

According to rescue teams, strong dust storms and heavy downpours disrupted daily life in Lahore and surrounding areas. Several trees and electricity poles were uprooted in different parts of the city, causing significant power outages.

Two 220 kV grid stations operated by LESCO (Lahore Electric Supply Company) were shut down due to the storm, leaving many areas without electricity. LESCO Chief Ramzan Butt stated that parts of the 132 kV system were also affected. However, restoration work is underway, and power supply is gradually being restored across the city.

Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious as more rain and unstable weather are expected in the coming days.
