Islamabad: A key leader of an inter-provincial assault and robbery gang was killed during a police counter-operation after an attack on law enforcement personnel, Islamabad Police reported on Thursday.
According to the spokesperson, officers of the Tarnol Police Station were conducting routine checking when members of the armed group opened fire on them. Police retaliated immediately, resulting in the death of the gang’s ringleader.
The spokesperson added that two suspects were injured by their own accomplices’ gunfire during the exchange of fire. Both were taken into custody, but one of them later succumbed to his injuries.
Police recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, ammunition, mobile phones and cash from the arrested suspects. Officials confirmed that the group was wanted in more than 35 serious criminal cases in Taxila, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
