KARACHI: A surge in looting incidents has been reported in Karachi’s coastal area of Ibrahim Hyderi, where armed groups are allegedly targeting fish traders and transport vehicles carrying seafood.

According to local fishermen, dozens of robberies have occurred between Shajara Pump and the fish factories, where vehicles transporting freshly caught fish are stopped and looted by armed gangs.

Reports suggest that groups of 20 to 25 armed men intercept the vehicles, assault the crew, and forcibly seize the fish catches. The frequent attacks have spread panic among local traders and fishermen, who say they are facing heavy financial losses and threats to their lives.

Fishermen claim that such incidents have become routine in the area, urging authorities to take immediate and effective action. They have demanded increased police patrols, establishment of permanent check posts, and deployment of additional personnel to ensure the safety of fish transport vehicles.

They further called for prompt registration of FIRs against such attacks and the arrest of those involved in the repeated looting incidents.
