Rise in Suspected Measles Cases Begins in Punjab

In the first four weeks of 2026, 1,695 suspected measles cases have been reported in Punjab.

‎According to details, the number of laboratory confirmed measles cases has reached 330. The report states that 40 measles outbreak alerts have been issued across the province.

‎The Director General Health Services Punjab has submitted a detailed report on measles to the Lahore High Court. In 2024, a total of 23,680 suspected measles cases were reported in Punjab.

‎In 2025, the number of suspected measles cases stood at 19,913, while in 2024, 6,747 measles cases were laboratory confirmed. In 2025, the number of confirmed measles cases was 4,000.

‎In 2024, 16 deaths from measles were reported, while in 2025, 4 deaths were recorded. This year, monitoring of the measles situation by the health department has been further tightened.

‎Several meetings have been held under the leadership of the Chief Secretary and the Health Minister. To prevent the spread of measles, surveillance has been intensified in the relevant districts, and instructions have been issued to further strengthen the monitoring system at district and hospital levels.
