Veteran actress Samina Peerzada dismissed recent claims that a woman’s income holds less value than a man’s, emphasizing that financial responsibilities in a marriage should be shared equally.
In a recent interview, Peerzada responded to comments by a fellow actor who suggested that men should bear all household expenses because women’s earnings supposedly lack divine blessings and abundance.
Calling this notion “nonsense,” Peerzada said, “Both of us [my husband and I] have worked hard and contributed to our family’s wellbeing.” She highlighted how she personally supported her daughters’ education with her earnings, while her husband built their house.
Peerzada explained that while chivalry is a beautiful gesture reflecting a man’s upbringing, it does not diminish a woman’s independence or contributions. “If he takes care of me, it shows his wonderful upbringing, but it doesn’t mean I cannot manage on my own,” she said.
She concluded that the key to her successful marriage is mutual support and sharing responsibilities, both financial and emotional.
