Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Z Flip8 alongside the Z Fold8 next summer, with reports from Korea revealing that the new Flip model will be at least 10% thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Flip8 could measure just 6mm when opened, 12mm when folded, and weigh around 170 grams. Samsung reportedly believes this slimmer, more portable design will help boost demand for its next-generation foldables.
The company has set a combined sales target of 6.7 million units for the Z Flip8 and Z Fold8, aiming to rebound from the Flip7’s underwhelming performance. The redesign is expected to deliver stronger upgrades and improved overall performance.
Analysts say the move aligns with growing competition from Chinese brands that are emphasizing ultra-thin foldables. Samsung is also reportedly preparing for Apple’s potential entry into the foldable market in 2026.
Earlier this year, Samsung reduced the weight and thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold7, while the Flip7 remained similar to the Flip6. The upcoming Flip8 is now expected to follow suit with a major design overhaul in 2026.
