In a landmark move, Saudi Arabia has announced that anyone holding a valid visa for the Kingdom regardless of its type can now perform Umrah, marking one of the most significant reforms to its pilgrimage policy in recent years.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that visitors entering Saudi Arabia on tourist, business, family visit, work, or transit visas will now be eligible to perform Umrah during their stay. This change eliminates the previous requirement of obtaining a dedicated Umrah visa, which was mandatory for pilgrims in the past.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the decision is part of the broader Saudi Vision 2030 plan an initiative aimed at diversifying the country’s economy and boosting religious tourism. The ministry added that all pilgrims must register for their pilgrimage through the official Nusuk platform or other approved travel agencies to ensure proper coordination and services.
The reform has been widely praised by Muslims around the world, as it opens doors for millions of visitors who travel to the Kingdom for various purposes but also wish to perform Umrah during their trip.
Officials believe this step will not only simplify the pilgrimage process but also significantly increase the number of international visitors, further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as the spiritual heart of the Islamic world.
