Saudi Foreign Minister to Lead Landmark Delegation to Ramallah Amid Renewed Push for Palestinian Statehood

In a historic diplomatic move, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan will lead a high-level delegation to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank this Sunday. The visit, part of a broader Arab-Islamic initiative, aims to galvanize international support for ending the Israeli occupation and advancing the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

According to Saudi state media outlet Al-Arabiya, Prince Faisal will head the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, which includes representatives from Egypt, Jordan, and other key regional nations. The group is expected to hold talks with senior Palestinian officials, including President Mahmoud Abbas.

This visit marks a historic milestone as it will be the first by a senior Saudi diplomat to the Palestinian territories since 1967.

The diplomatic push comes as preparations are underway for a significant UN conference in New York next month, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. The conference will focus on reviving the long-stalled two-state solution and establishing a clear political path forward.

Palestinian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mazen Ghoneim, described the visit as a powerful statement of solidarity. “This ministerial visit sends a clear message: the Palestinian cause remains a central issue for Arabs and Muslims,” he told Al-Ikhbariya TV.

The delegation’s visit follows a recent committee meeting in Madrid, where members reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, in accordance with UN resolutions.

The mission comes at a time of immense humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where Israel has been conducting a brutal military campaign since October 2023. More than 54,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed, and international aid organizations warn of a looming famine affecting Gaza’s population of over 2 million.
