A new global review covering the period from 2014 to 2023 has found that the most effective way to quit smoking is the use of nicotine containing electronic cigarettes (vapes).
Evidence suggests that nicotine-rich vapes are more effective in helping people quit smoking compared to traditional nicotine replacement therapies such as patches, chewing gum, lozenges, and behavioral support. They have also proven to be more effective than nicotine free e-cigarettes.
But is switching from one nicotine based product to another really an improvement? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), not necessarily.
Although electronic cigarettes (commonly known as e-cigarettes, e-cigs, or vapes) contain fewer harmful substances compared to the approximately 7,000 toxic chemicals found in traditional cigarette smoke, and medical experts agree that conventional smoking leads to cancer, metabolic diseases, cognitive decline, and other serious health issues, vapes are still not considered safe.
Scientists are still conducting research to determine the long term effects of electronic cigarettes on human health.
