KARACHI
The Sindh government has announced Saturday, August 9, as a public holiday to mark the 282nd annual Urs of the revered Sufi poet and saint, Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
The three-day celebrations will begin the same day at Bhittai’s shrine in Bhit Shah, drawing thousands of devotees, scholars, and admirers from across Pakistan. Sindh’s Secretary for Culture, Muhammad Khan Kloro, said preparations for the festival — which blends spiritual devotion with Sindh’s rich cultural traditions — are nearly complete.
An official notification confirming the holiday has been issued, while the provincial culture minister has formally invited Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori to inaugurate the Urs. The event is expected to feature Sufi music, poetry recitals, literary gatherings, and prayers, reflecting Bhittai’s enduring message of peace, love, and tolerance.
