ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Health has taken action to block social media accounts involved in spreading propaganda against the HPV vaccine being administered to girls across the country to protect them from cervical cancer.
According to sources, the ministry has written to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), stressing that this is the first-ever nationwide campaign launched to combat cervical cancer.
The ministry maintained that individuals spreading false information about the vaccine are undermining efforts to raise public awareness about its effectiveness in preventing a life-threatening disease. “Such propaganda is putting the lives of girls at risk,” it warned.
Sources further revealed that the ministry has requested not only the blocking of these accounts but also the registration of FIRs and arrests of those behind the smear campaign.
The ongoing anti-cervical cancer vaccination drive will continue until September 27.
