Hepatitis Control Program Balochistan Coordinator Dr Ameer Ali Bugti has said that the number of naturally reported hepatitis cases in the province is on the rise.
While addressing a press conference, Hepatitis Control Program Balochistan Coordinator Dr Ameer Ali Bugti said that hepatitis B and C are called silent killers, but they can be defeated through timely diagnosis.
He said that during 2023 to 2024, screening of 132,300 people was conducted in Balochistan, during which 8,617 individuals were found affected with hepatitis B and 5,817 with hepatitis C. During 2024 to 2025, free PCR facilities were provided.
Dr Ameer Ali Bugti further stated that hepatitis B cases have increased to 10,225, while hepatitis C cases have reached 5,817. Over the past three years, more than 2,000 hepatitis D patients have been provided free treatment.
He added that hepatitis centers have been established in 36 districts of Balochistan. Screening of prisoners and jail staff was carried out in 12 prisons of the province, where 61 cases of hepatitis B and 93 cases of hepatitis C were reported.
