New York — US President Donald Trump reignited his feud with London Mayor Sadiq Khan during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, alleging that London “wants to move towards Sharia law.”
“I look at London — it has a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor — and the city has been changed completely,” Trump said. “Now they want Sharia. But you’re in another country, you can’t do that.”
Responding to the remarks, a spokesperson for Sadiq Khan said they would not engage with such “prejudiced comments,” adding that London remains one of the best and safest cities in the world — a place where record numbers of Americans have chosen to move.
The spat between Trump and Khan is not new. In 2015, Khan openly opposed Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US, sparking a series of jabs from Trump ever since. Just last week, Trump branded Khan “one of the worst mayors in the world” during his UK visit.
