Experts have warned that patients with type 2 diabetes face an increased risk of hearing loss, and this condition should be included in the list of diabetes related complications.
According to research, people with type 2 diabetes are at a higher risk of hearing impairment compared to those without the disease.
Experts said that uncontrolled blood sugar can damage small blood vessels and nerves in the ear, affecting hearing ability.
These findings emerged after reviewing 17 previous studies involving nearly 8,000 individuals, which included both diabetic and non diabetic participants.
The results showed that about 40 percent to 72 percent of people with type 2 diabetes experienced some level of hearing loss.
Those with moderate to severe hearing loss also had higher HbA1c levels, indicating that poor blood sugar control can worsen hearing problems.
Experts emphasized that hearing tests should be included in routine check ups for patients with type 2 diabetes to enable early diagnosis and treatment.
