University professors protest on a black day as pay day and autonomy problems day of protest.
The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) organised “Black Day” in public universities to show their protest against government indifference towards the problem of higher education institutions in the country. The university faculty members protested by wearing black armbands and boycotted academic work until all the delayed salaries were paid, the university regain its autonomy and the amount of education investment rose.
FAPUASA leaders said the protest is symptomatic of increased frustration among the faculty of the university with inflation, inability to secure their jobs and budgetary cuts. They further accused the federal government and provincial governments of negligence, since many times there were repeated calls and the efforts to go to the universities in the development of a country.
Unless the association met their demands within a very short period they would shift the protest to nationwide strike and this would interfere with academic calendar and research work in the state universities. The universityadministrations were, also, encouraged to take up the cause and bring to focus the crisis in higher education.
