Medical experts have warned that some dietary and herbal supplements can be dangerous for patients with kidney and liver diseases. According to experts, if these organs are already weak, taking non-prescribed or high doses of supplements can put additional strain on them and lead to serious complications.

‎Doctors say that it is necessary to consult a qualified physician before using any supplement because supplements are not regulated as strictly as medicines and there is a risk that they may contain undeclared or contaminated ingredients.

‎Which supplements should be avoided?

‎1. Green tea extract in capsule form:

‎Although green tea as a beverage is considered safe, its concentrated extract in high amounts can cause liver inflammation and damage.

‎2. High dose protein powders:

‎Excessive protein intake increases the burden on the kidneys, especially in patients with chronic kidney disease, and can worsen their condition.

‎3. Fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, K:

‎These vitamins can accumulate in the body and cause toxic effects in high amounts, particularly vitamin A which can be harmful to the liver.

‎4. Iron supplements without testing:

‎Taking iron without medical need can lead to excess iron in the liver, which may cause a condition like hemochromatosis.

‎5. Certain herbal medicines:

‎Ingredients such as comfrey, black cohosh, and Garcinia cambogia have been found in research to damage the liver.

‎6. Licorice root:

‎Excessive use can increase blood pressure and reduce potassium levels, which is dangerous for kidney and heart patients.

‎7. Potassium or phosphorus supplements:

‎In kidney patients, levels of these minerals can rise to dangerous levels, so caution is necessary.

‎8. Unverified detox and fat burner products:

‎Unknown ingredients in these products can affect liver and kidney functions.

‎Expert guidance:

‎Experts say that kidneys and liver play a key role in removing waste and toxins from the body. If these organs are weak, using supplements without medical supervision can make the disease more severe.

‎Doctors advise that patients should undergo a full medical checkup and consultation before starting any supplement to avoid potential risks.
