Islamabad (November 4, 2025) — A fresh westerly weather system has entered Pakistan, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and early snowfall to the northern and upper parts of the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed on Tuesday.

According to PMD, the system will particularly affect Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Islamabad, northern Punjab, and adjoining areas. Heavy clouds and thunderstorm activity are expected in districts including Hunza, Skardu, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, and Murree, where temperatures have already dropped sharply.

The department warned that moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall over high mountains could lead to landslides, avalanches, and road closures in hilly terrain. Travelers, especially those heading toward tourist destinations in the north, have been urged to remain cautious and check road conditions before departure.

Advisory for local communities and farmers Officials also highlighted that the cold wave and precipitation may affect standing crops and livestock. Farmers in northern Punjab and KP have been advised to take preventive measures to protect their produce and animals from cold stress and excessive moisture.

The PMD noted that nighttime temperatures are likely to drop by 3–5°C across the northern belt after the system passes, marking the arrival of early winter conditions in these regions.

PDMA alert for Murree and Galiyat

Meanwhile, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for Murree and Galiyat, forecasting light rain and snowfall between November 4 and 5. The authority has advised local authorities to stay vigilant and deploy machinery to clear possible snow from roads. Tourists planning to visit these hill stations have been cautioned about slippery roads and visibility issues.

While the north braces for rain and snow, southern and central parts of Pakistan, including Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab, are expected to remain dry and partly cloudy during this period. The Karachi region will continue to experience mild, breezy evenings with no significant rain forecast this week.

Meteorologists call it the first major winter system of the season

Experts describe this as the first notable westerly disturbance of the winter season, signaling the start of colder patterns nationwide. Meteorologist Dr. Zaheer Babar from PMD stated that more such systems are expected to approach Pakistan in **mid- and late
