Imagine stepping outside one morning and spotting the Moon looking far too close for comfort not the calm, silvery disc we’re used to, but a blazing, fractured giant hurtling straight toward us. It sounds like something pulled right out of a sci-fi film, and honestly, it kind of is. But the idea still sparks a lot of curiosity:
what would actually happen if the Moon started falling toward Earth?
Scientists say such a scenario is practically impossible, yet the physics behind it are fascinating. If the Moon somehow broke out of its orbit, the first signs wouldn’t be fire or explosions it would be chaos in our tides, weather patterns, and even Earth’s rotation. As it drew closer, gravity would tear the Moon apart long before impact, creating a ring of debris around our planet instead of one massive collision.
