Influenza virus cases are continuously increasing in Peshawar due to the cold and dry weather.
According to statistics from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, 30 to 40 percent of people in the province are infected with the influenza virus every year, most of whom belong to rural areas.
This year as well, the number of patients suffering from flu, cold, asthma, and chronic respiratory issues has increased in hospitals, while children along with adults are being affected by seasonal illnesses.
What is the influenza virus?
According to health experts, influenza is a viral infection that spreads from one person to another through coughing, fever, and sneezing. However, the influenza virus becomes more active due to cold and dry weather.
Pulmonologist Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar said that due to the lack of rainfall, the weather has become extremely dry, which is causing difficulties not only for influenza patients but also for those suffering from asthma, pneumonia, and chronic respiratory diseases. A large number of patients coming to hospitals include children and the elderly.
Health experts say that vaccination is extremely important for people with weak immunity during cold and dry weather. Vaccines not only protect against seasonal illnesses but also reduce the risks of complications that may arise during extreme weather conditions.
