World Autism Awareness Day is being observed today (April 2) in Pakistan and around the world, with the aim of highlighting the challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families, and creating awareness in society.
This day was officially designated in 2007 by the United Nations General Assembly to raise global awareness about autism and to recognize the rights of individuals affected by it.
According to experts, autism is a neurological disorder that affects a person’s social interaction, communication, and behavior. Individuals with autism may face difficulties in communicating with others, expressing emotions, and understanding situations.
The prevalence of autism is increasing worldwide, and it can affect individuals of any race, region, or social background.
On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, seminars, awareness walks, and various events are organized in different countries to provide more information about autism and to promote the understanding that individuals with autism are also part of society like everyone else. Blue is used as the symbol of autism awareness on this day, and famous buildings around the world are illuminated with blue lights to draw attention to the issue.
Experts emphasize that parents and teachers should acquire basic knowledge about autism and provide a more friendly and supportive environment for children with autism so they can lead a normal and happy life.
The main objective of World Autism Awareness Day is to promote a positive attitude toward this neurological condition through social cooperation worldwide and to appreciate the abilities of individuals with autism, enabling them to play a full and active role in society.
