Islamabad / Beijing — President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed that the countries of Asia must think beyond conflicts and instead focus on economic progress, highlighting that Pakistan’s partnership with China has now extended “as far as space.”

In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), President Zardari said China’s economic strength has brought prosperity and confidence to its people and that the future of the region is tied to collective development. “The entire East will move forward in cooperation with China. Mutual respect for sovereignty is essential, and Pakistan will always stand by China in every circumstance,” he remarked.

Reflecting on his long association with China, the president said he had visited the country 16 to 17 times, witnessing its rapid transformation. “China today is vastly different from what it was 14 years ago,” he observed, adding that Pakistan values the warmth and trust shown during each visit.

On agriculture, he emphasised the need for self-reliance through modern irrigation techniques, efficient water management, disaster prevention and advanced farming technologies. “Collaboration in agriculture and water conservation is critical for securing our future,” he said, underlining that Pakistan and China share immense potential for cooperation and investment.

President Zardari described Pakistan and China as “iron brothers,” noting that their destinies are interconnected. He highlighted China’s technological advancements achieved through innovation and hard work, saying Pakistan looks forward to benefiting from these experiences in renewable energy, solar and wind power, and railway development.

Regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the president called it the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, adding: “Our ports are among the closest to China, and CPEC’s success will drive growth across the entire region, strengthening connectivity and prosperity.”
