LAHORE – At least 20 people have died in the past 24 hours due to flood-related incidents across Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed on Friday.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said the highest number of fatalities was reported from Gujranwala. He clarified that no deaths had occurred during evacuation operations.
The DG added that the families of the deceased will be given financial compensation of Rs1 million each. Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, special steps are also being taken to protect livestock.
According to PDMA, more than 317,000 animals have already been relocated to safer places, while fodder and other arrangements are being ensured. Helicopters and rescue boats are also in use for shifting residents from inundated areas.
