Pakistan has set a global example under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), the Benazir Nashonuma Programme has successfully reduced the stunting rate among children by 6.4%.
According to a study conducted by the Aga Khan University, the Benazir Nashonuma Programme of BISP has brought about a 6.4% reduction in child stunting.
This achievement is considered one of the best outcomes ever recorded for any large scale nutrition program in the world. The initiative has significantly improved birth outcomes, child survival, and maternal health.
BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid stated that these results are clear evidence that when social protection is linked with nutrition related interventions, it delivers meaningful outcomes for poor women and children.
She further emphasized that expanding the program is essential to reducing the burden of malnutrition in Pakistan and strengthening the country’s human capital.
