ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marking his first visit to the country since assuming office.

Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at Lahore Airport. During his brief stay in Lahore, President Pezeshkian visited the mausoleum of national poet Allama Iqbal before traveling to Islamabad to begin the official leg of his visit.

The Iranian leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and several senior ministers and officials.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, President Pezeshkian will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Senate Chairman, National Assembly Speaker, and engage in delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Discussions will focus on strengthening political, economic, trade, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.

“This visit is expected to further deepen the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said, noting the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Tehran on May 26, 2025.

Earlier, during a visit to Tehran, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with President Pezeshkian and conveyed a message of goodwill from PM Shehbaz. Naqvi also congratulated the Iranian leadership on what he described as a “historic victory against Zionist aggression,” reaffirming Pakistan’s early condemnation of Israel’s actions and its support for Iran’s right to self-defense.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to enhance regional cooperation and reinforce their bilateral partnership.
