Lahore Police Bust Mobile Phone Smuggling Ring Using Cargo Services

LAHORE – Police in Lahore have dismantled a smuggling network involved in transporting stolen mobile phones via cargo companies, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to details, the operation was conducted by SHO Faisal Town, Afzal Rauf, who led a targeted raid resulting in the arrest of two suspects linked to the illicit activity.

SP Model Town, Akhlaq Ullah Tarar, stated that the breakthrough came through the use of CCTV surveillance and mobile phone location tracking technology. The suspects would reportedly snatch mobile phones from victims and later disguise them as parcels to be sent to Peshawar using cargo service providers.

“One of the suspects was caught on CCTV fleeing the crime scene shortly after committing a robbery,” said SP Tarar. He added that both individuals in custody are habitual criminals with prior records in theft and robbery cases.

During the operation, police recovered ten stolen mobile phones, Rs200,000 in cash, and two illegal firearms from the arrested men, identified as Shehzad and Hassan. Authorities have registered a formal case and are conducting further raids to apprehend additional members of the smuggling syndicate.

This latest bust follows a similar trend seen in Karachi, where police recently uncovered a narcotics smuggling method involving online orders and motorcycle deliveries after traffickers moved away from traditional courier services.

Lahore police have reiterated their commitment to dismantling such criminal networks and have urged cargo companies to implement stricter parcel screening processes to curb the misuse of their services.
