JI Slams Murtaza Wahab Over Karachi Rains, Funds Dispute

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has strongly criticised Mayor Murtaza Wahab and the Sindh government, accusing them of neglecting Karachi’s rain related crises and withholding development funds from JI administered towns.

Following Wahab’s recent press conference, JI leaders rejected his claims, saying the administration is misleading citizens. They alleged that Octroi and Zila Tax (OZT) funds are only spent on salaries, with no development support provided in the last two years. “The mayor has no clue what to do and is trying to misguide the people through propaganda,” a JI spokesperson said.

Wahab, however, defended his government, attributing urban flooding to climate change and record rainfall, while highlighting Rs. 27 billion already allocated to opposition-run towns. He admitted shortcomings in traffic management, particularly on Shahrah e Faisal, where heavy blockages paralysed the city.

JI dismissed these remarks as misleading and accused the PPP-led administration of pursuing “anti-public policies.” The ongoing dispute underscores rising tensions between Karachi’s local government and opposition, as residents grow frustrated with poor infrastructure and ineffective governance.
