Rising Waters Submerge Villages

Vehari district is reeling from severe flooding as the Sutlej River continues to swell, submerging dozens of villages and forcing thousands to evacuate.

According to the Punjab Irrigation Department, water flow has reached 125,000 cusecs at Head Islam, 170,000 cusecs at Jamlera, and over 117,000 cusecs at Mailsi Siphon.

Massive Crop Losses
Floodwaters have inundated more than 61,000 acres of farmland, damaging cotton, rice, and sugarcane crops, and causing major losses to the district’s agriculture sector.

Evacuations and Safety Measures
Nearly 80,000 residents have been evacuated while about 58,000 livestock have been moved to safer locations. The worst-affected villages include Jamlera, Sahoka, Saldira, Mahru Baloch, and Luddan.

Authorities Issue Warnings
Officials have urged residents to remain on high alert as water levels remain dangerously high. They cautioned that upcoming rains could worsen the situation, intensifying the flooding crisis.
