Islamabad — In a rare move, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court has decided to represent himself before the Supreme Court against the order barring him from judicial work, according to sources.

Justice Jahangiri, whose judicial functions were halted by an IHC division bench after his appointment was challenged, has reportedly prepared to file an appeal and argue the case personally.

Justice Jahangiri arrived at the Supreme Court through the litigants’ entrance, carrying his entry card himself. Several fellow judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Ijaz Ishaq, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, accompanied him to show solidarity.

Legal observers see this as an unprecedented step, reflecting not only Justice Jahangiri’s personal resolve but also growing concerns within the judiciary over the handling of internal disputes.

The case is expected to draw significant attention as it may have far-reaching implications for judicial independence and accountability in Pakistan.
