Floods Intensify Across Sindh and Punjab, Thousands Displaced

Rising floodwaters in Sindh and Punjab have submerged dozens of villages, washed away parts of the M5 Motorway, and forced mass evacuations. Authorities report that at least 250,000 people have been relocated in Punjab, while over 185,000 individuals in Sindh have been shifted to safer ground.

In Dadu district, more than 50 villages remain underwater as a powerful surge from Mehar hit protective embankments near Sehwan, flooding homes, roads, and a health center. Meanwhile, Jalalpur Pirwala in Punjab remains submerged, with large sections of the motorway cut off.

Officials confirm medium-level flooding at Sukkur, Guddu, and Kotri barrages, with the Indus River expected to stay high until month’s end. The Sutlej River also continues to overflow at several points.

While relief efforts are underway, damaged infrastructure, stranded communities, and livestock losses pose ongoing challenges. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast hot and dry conditions in flood-hit regions following the retreat of monsoon rains, which may complicate recovery.
