Lahore (Report) — A concerning rise in student failures at the intermediate level has been observed in Punjab, where 41% of candidates failed their exams across all educational boards in 2025.

According to the data, the failure rate in 2020 was 32%, which climbed to 41% by 2025. This means that between 2021 and 2025, the number of failing students increased by 8%.

Education experts say the growing trend of failures in intermediate examinations raises serious questions about the performance of the secondary education system. As a result, university admissions have also declined, which poses a warning sign for the future of higher education.

Experts have cautioned that if the weaknesses in the secondary education system are not addressed, the quality of education in Punjab could deteriorate further, negatively impacting the future of higher educaion.
